Audley Stanbridge Earls, a luxury retirement village in Romsey, has launched a new wildlife initiative to support one of Britain’s most loved but increasingly endangered species. Dubbed Project Snuffle, the programme is part of a wider effort by the Audley Group to protect hedgehogs, now officially listed as a species of concern in the UK.
The initiative follows guidance from the National Hedgehog Strategy and includes installing hedgehog houses and highways, creating pesticide-free zones, and setting up safe feeding areas. Residents and staff
have embraced the project with enthusiasm, contributing to a nationwide effort that will also feed into the Royal Horticultural Society’s national hedgehog activity data.
“Many of our villages include acres of natural woodland,” said Phil Rolfe, chair of the Audley Group’s ESG committee. “It’s important to us to protect and preserve the wildlife around us.”
