WHAT’S INVOLVED
- Once you are interviewed, registered and inducted you will be ready to get started.
- Each distributor has a dedicated round or route they are committed to each issue.
- The number of houses in each round varies; some are small, others quite big. Distributors can start with one round and ask for additional rounds. Sometimes distributors are offered a round to do temporarily due to sickness, holiday or resignation.
- The magazines are delivered to your home in cardboard boxes with leaflets to be inserted at home before you start delivering.
- You are given a route map with the streets and how many homes are included per street.
- You are given up to 7 days to complete your route.
- While you are walking the route, you run a tracking application on your phone which maps where you are walking and acts as a proof of delivery to our advertisers.
- You will be given details and training about the app called RoundControl. The app tells us when you have completed the round and if you have any shortages or leftover magazines.
- If you complete early you are given a bonus. Payment is made to all distributors on the 15th day of each month by BACS (bank transfer).
- The minimum age to distribute is 13. There is no upper age limit!
Please note that we are unable to accept applications if you live in a flat. This is because we drop off the magazines and often leave them outside the front door, exposed to weather
Every other month ie.6 times a year. Which month will depend on your route.
Induction takes about 30 minutes and it’s always held at our offices in Eastleigh.
We will cover the following:
• Your route
• How to use the distribution tracking App called Roundcontrol
• Rules & Guidelines
• Health & Safety Briefing
• Work Permit if required (under 16)
• Bank details, contact details and of parents or carer if you are under 16
• Trolley & bag collection – bring £10 in cash with you
We have a stock of trolleys and shoulder bags available which we can lend you to transport the magazines around your route. A deposit of £10 will be required from you upon receipt of your trolley/bag. This fee will be held by us and refunded once you cease working for us and return the trolley/bag to our office in Eastleigh.
Through use of the RoundControl app, your delivery will be recorded, and when you’ve finished, you’ll file a finishing report which feeds into our system for checking and then payment is made. The tracking app on your phone does not use your data. Your details are held on our system and complies with GDPR.
Distributors are paid on satisfactory completion of their round on time. The amount paid depends on the number of homes per route and how many leaflet inserts there were in that particular delivery. We pay above average for magazine delivery and the same regardless of age; it’s the job that matters not the age you are!
If you are under 16 you will be an employee of Discover Magazines. As you do not have a National Insurance number we do not deduct tax.
If you are over 16 (or become 16 while previously working for us) you are self-employed and responsible for declaring this income to HMRC where appropriate (Please search on the internet for advice on being exempt for registering as self-employed if you earn less than £1000 per year).
