Emmaus Hampshire, the homelessness charity, has celebrated its contribution to more sustainable living at a special awards evening. The event included a workshop on looking good using pre-loved fashion from the charity’s boutique collection, and Stefan Trebacz explained how he is working with Companions to upcycle pieces of leather.
The contributions from the Companions were the most moving part of the event. Each of the formerly homeless residents, called Companions, has a different talent. Companion Rhys, a young man whose life has been changed by living at Emmaus Hampshire, spoke about how the community is relieving poverty around the city through Solidarity projects. Companion Liam entertained guests with his own musical compositions which tackle poverty and social issues with a voice of hope. His music is available on spotify and has already been played on the BBC. He is a young man (just turned 21 years old) with big plans.
