Prince Edward has visited Ahmad Tea in Chandler’s Ford to present the King’s Award for Enterprise on behalf of HRH King Charles.
Starting in a small shop in London Road, Southampton, in 1986, Ahmad Tea is now one of the top producers of tea worldwide.
This prestigious Award recognises Ahmad Tea’s impact, improving lives in the UK and around the world, with the company giving around 20 per cent of its profits to charity. Recipients have included Southampton General Hospital, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Alzheimer’s Society and Macmillan Cancer Support. Globally they have given back to the places where they source their tea and partnered Oxfam to deveop a clean water programme across rural Niger.
Zahra Afshar who received the Award, commented: “My grandfather was one of the two founding members of this company. He was devoted to charity which is an ethos we have maintained. Understanding the role that businesses like Ahmad Tea can play in lifting up communities is so important.”
