Our cover story features Portsmouth entrepreneur and a Southampton media agency who joined forces to launch a board game version of BBC TV’s The Repair Shop – which is filmed just over the county border at The Weald & Downland Museum in Chichester. Now fans can have their own piece of the popular TV show with the launch of Destination The Repair Shop, a fun board game that echoes the warm, wholesome feel of the show. This is the latest in the series of Destination board games designed and created by Hampshire entrepreneur Rachel Lowe MBE in partnership with media agency TVADSWORK, based in Park Gate, Southampton.
Rachel first came up with the idea for her series of Destination games while working as a taxi driver in Portsmouth to fund herself as a mature law student, and juggling being a mother to her two daughters. In 2004 she went on TV to pitch her Destination London board game to the Dragon’s Den panel. Despite rejection in the Den, Rachel proved the popularity of the game. Destination London was stocked in Hamleys that Christmas and was their most sold game that year, outselling Monopoly.
Today the Destination brand offers over 50 variations of games and puzzles, including Destination Southampton, Destination Bournemouth & Poole, Destination Isle of Wight and, of course, one based on Rachel’s home city, Destination Portsmouth.
