PAUL FULLICK SWAPS MCLAREN FOR TUK TUK

PAUL FULLICK SWAPS MCLAREN FOR TUK TUK

Paul Fullick, a disabled racing driver from Fareham, is a total inspiration. Paul is a lower leg amputee, following a motorbike accident. However, undeterred he now competes as a driver for Team BRIT, the world’s only competitive team of all-disabled racing drivers, using the team’s world-leading hand control technology to compete with able-bodied drivers. Paul also recently took time out to fundraise for others seriously injured through sport. He traded in his McLaren for a tuk tuk (aka auto-rickshaw) to take on an epic charity challenge, with teams from across the world, driving a tuk tuk 3000km across India in the Rickshaw Run. Paul and his teammates Gordon Baird and Joao Costa arrived in Jaisalmer in Rajasthan with 69 other teams to meet their tuk tuk. There is a starting point, a mid-way meet up, and an end location, but otherwise teams are on their own. After reaching the finish point at Fort Kochi, Paul and his teammates raised almost £2,000 for the Matt Hampson Foundation which inspires and supports young people seriously injured through sport. Paul’s fellow Team BRIT drivers Noah Cosby and Aaron Morgan have both benefitted from their services. Paul explains: “We faced challenge after challenge – many of which were unique to our team. We had to fit my wheelchair into the tuk tuk! The tuk tuk also has its brake powered by the right pedal; without a right foot, using this isn’t easy! The highlight of the trip was meeting so many amazing people. Day after day we would be invited by strangers to join them in their family homes so they could cook for us.
“Now to plan the next adventure…”
