With confirmation that improvements to junction 10 on the M27 have been agreed, it is all systems go for 6,000 homes to be built at Welborne Garden Village, sited on farmland north of Fareham and the M27.
Cllr Simon Martin, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said: “This is terrific news for the Borough. Fareham Borough Council is set housing targets by Government, so it is really important for us to deliver the number of homes set out in the Council’s Local Plans. Without the motorway improvements, Welborne would only be able to bring forward 1160 new homes and the Council would need to find space for the additional 4840 homes elsewhere in the Borough.”
Welborne Garden Village is a local first initiative with half of the suppliers, contractors and consultants based in Hampshire, including Welborne’s master developer, Buckland Development Ltd. The house and street designs will reflect the county’s traditional vernacular while also having ‘climate change’ resilience built in.
With a focus on early delivery of infrastructure, the first phase, including village centre and the first primary school, is already underway.
