With improvements to junction 10 on the M27 agreed, it is all systems go for 6,000 homes to be built at Welborne Garden Village, on farmland north of Fareham and the M27.
Cllr Simon Martin, Leader of Fareham Borough Council, said this was good news: “Fareham Borough Council is set housing targets by Government… Without the motorway improvements, Welborne would only bring forward 1160 new homes and the Council would need to find space for the additional 4840 homes elsewhere in the Borough.”
Welborne Garden Village is a local first initiative with half of the suppliers, contractors and consultants based in Hampshire. The house and street designs will reflect the county’s traditional vernacular while also having ‘climate change’ resilience built in. With a focus on delivery of infrastructure, the first phase, including village centre and the first primary school, is already underway.
