Discover are delighted to hear that Southampton City Farm, a charitable city farm based in Millbrook, have won Community Project of the Year at Action Hampshire’s Changemakers Awards. Tom Kitcher, Farm Lead, Oasis Southampton City Farm, exclaimed delightedly: “We won! Thank you to those who nominated us, and a massive thank you to our wonderful staff and volunteers, the people who put in so much hard work to help make the farm such a magical place. We simply wouldn’t be able to operate without you.” Action Hampshire chose Southampton City Farm in recognition that it is more than just a farm it is a lifeline for the community. Home to more than 50 rescued animals, it thrives on the dedication of volunteers, young people and individuals with learning disabilities. In the wake of the pandemic, the Farm reinvented itself to meet the growing community needs. It expanded its youth activities, mental health and wellbeing support, free accessible sessions, and new education, youth and community programme, shaped by those who benefit most. The impact has been remarkable. Attendance has tripled in two years. Its weekly sessions have grown from eight to over 55, and all designed to teach life skills, boost employability and enhance wellbeing.
