FOND MEMORIES OF OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN

Former anchor of Southampton based BBC South, Andrew Harvey, has fond memories of legendary Grease star, Olivia Newton-John, who died aged 73.

In a tribute to the superstar, BBC South played an archive clip of when Olivia was at Brighton representing the UK in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest and was filmed running around and joking as the cameras rolled.

She was interviewed by Andrew and speaking to Discover he said: “What struck me was how happy she was to play around while we took more shots. You can’t imagine the same thing happening today with the armies of minders, PR people and make up experts.”

Recalling the interview, Andrew said: “Incidentally, I thought my questions were unnecessarily unkind when I asked: ‘How will you feel if you lose?’”

“But I suppose I thought at the time that’s how a reporter should tackle a celebrity… be tough, ask the unexpected question.”

The BBC South presenter said he had memories of a “lovely, lovely girl.”

Olivia’s song, Long Live Love, came 4th, winning 14 points.
