EASTLEIGH SCOTT MILLS STEPPING DOWN

Eastleigh born disc jockey Scott Mills has landed one of the most prized daily gigs on radio.

He is stepping down from his BBC Radio 1 weekday show after 24 years at the network – and taking over from veteran broadcaster Steve Wright’s afternoon slot on BBC Radio 2 from 2 – 4pm.

The 49-year-old DJ has hosted various shows on Radio 1 since 1998 and has become a rising radio star.

Mills attended Shakespeare Infants and Crestwood College Secondary Schools. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Arts from Southampton’s Solent University and the bridge that crosses the M3 at Fleet Services was officially named The Scott Mills Bridge, along with a plaque.

Scott said: “Time actually does fly when you’re having fun, and that’s certainly been the case over the past 24 years at my beloved Radio 1, the station I pretended to be on in my bedroom from the age of 6 and the station I told my mum I wanted to work at, but never in a million years thought I would.” He is thrilled to be working from the legendary Wogan House.
