The Hampshire Bowman Walk

This well-known walk remains an unspoilt pocket of countryside between Bishops Waltham and Droxford. It is well worth braving the cold, especially if you make a pit-stop at the Hampshire Bowman pub.

Park up at the Basingwell Street car park in the town centre and walk down Little Shore Lane passing the Chapel. At the T-junction go right and then take the second left down Cricklemede and keep walking until you find a gate on the right that will take you into The Moors nature reserve. Take the left path and make your way to the woods through a kissing gate, walk straight on for another 1/3 of a mile. When you reach a T-junction take the left track and walk in the meadows by the tree line. As you come to the road go right and then left after 250 metres down West Hoe Lane. After ½ mile take the footpath situated diagonally left across the field, then bear right across the field by a cattle trough. At a 4 way junction go left to follow the road to Dundridge. As you gradually ascend the brow of the hill, you will find a footpath to the right. Rambling onwards you will stumble upon a stile to your left; once over it follow the path passing alongside farm buildings. When you reach the road, turn right and meet the welcoming sign of The Hampshire Bowman!

After stopping for refreshment turn left out of the pub, and follow the road right, signed to Bishops Waltham. After a short distance take a left down a track to Field Farm, and after the same distance again you will find a stile on the right. Go over it and continue through the woods into the meadow and at the second seat, bear left to the field and turn right across two fields. When you reach a gate follow the path to the right and then on to Colville Drive. At the T-junction go left, then right onto Maypole Green. When you pass through the churchyard into St Peter’s Street, turn left onto Bank Street then take the first right and the car park will be before you. The circle is complete!
